Unfortunately, this is an unpublished work of fiction that is too sensitive to just pass along to a public Sky drive. I can post a couple of chapters but I'm not sure a smaller document will show the same problem. I understand.I strongly doubt it is a memory constraint since you have a Win7 machine. ¯(ツ)/¯. Windows 7 x64Office 2013I just created a new document with multiple screenshots in it. One day I opened the file to continue editing and BAM half the screenshots were gone.Placeholder with a red x in the upper left corner with a caption that says. The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.

Verify that the link points to the correct file and location. This was not a link, it was a screenshot taken with Snagit. Copied and pasted from Snagit. I do NOT have the Word Advanced Option turned on that says 'Show picture placeholders'This is really frustrating and makes me lose confidence in Word 2013. Powerpoint 2013 error: sorry we couldn't open c. Red X - fixed(?)Solution:I had the same issue with PowerPoint 2013, and I think the culprit is MS Upload Center which is used to sync the offline files in the background. So this is what I did:6.

Go to Task Manager by doing taskmgr in Windows icon - search box7. In 'Process' tab, look for MSOSYNC and kill the process8. In PowerPoint, go to 'File' and select 'Options'. Under 'Save', and in 'Save checked-out files to', tick the box 'The server drafts location on this computer' instead of 'The Office Document Cache'. Restart PowerPoint and you can save it without that intermittent read-only message10. To ensure that the MSOSYNC is not started automatically on reboot, then go to 'Services' by typing services.msc in Windows icon - search box.

And in that window, locate 'Offline Files' and right click, and select'Properties'. From there, select change 'Start-up type' to 'Manual'Hope this helps everyone. It works for me:-)FWIW, MSOSYNC is definitely NOT part of the Click2Run version only.It pops up here in PPT 2010 where it's part of, IIRC, MS SharePoint Workspace (formerly Groove). This did the trick for me.at least I have not been able so far to break it. It works even if MSOSYNC is running so it appears that simply doing step 3( In PowerPoint, go to. 'File' menu.

select 'Options' command. Under 'Save' option,. in 'Save checked-out files to', tick the box 'The server drafts location on this computer' instead of 'The Office Document Cache'. Then OK.has done the trick (at least so far). “I have seen impractical and improbable things accomplished. I am working with relatively small files that I receive from other people. The one I opened today is only 6 pages long.

The pictures remain blank until I change the wrap text option, which messes up the original layout someone else created.I can however convert the file to pdf and view them there.I import pictures into my own documents and the same thing happens - a blank picture until I change the wrap text option. Not being able to see pictures that people send me in documents is rather annoying, and certainly a major detractor from Word 2013. Is there a fix to this?

I have looked in all the options and can't find anything obvious that the default setting is to onlyshow the placeholder for the picture rather that the actual picture.

So glad I could help. I came to webdesign/development from an English / Fine Art background, if that's any consolation or motivation for you. (I did like math, however, and am drawn to the logic of computer languages. Being stubborn, or should I say 'persistent' also helps.) Did you ever come across the following tool? This is an add-on for the Firefox browser which, when installed, appears as a toolbar under your Firefox browser menu and lets you isolate and study various components of a web page.
