This has been my thoughts on the matter, though you phrased it better.Incidentally, we see the other side of the coin here in The Force Awakens: Han and Leia's relationship through the OT isn't actually that different from Anakin and Padme's in some key points (formed around adventure, vastly different social-economic background, etc). But what we see with Han and Leia is what happens when the adventures finally stop. The family falls apart, they fall out of love, and maybe even try to have a kid or two to save the marriage. You can see they still respect the hell out of each other, but the relationship is effectively dead by the time TFA happens.
